Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat
It’s a lovely song, and for the longest time I mistakenly believed it to be by Buddy Holly rather than Herman’s Hermits (who are still touring!). I guess Peter Noone sounds similar to me, which is probably not a coincidence. I’m told British groups were trying to sound American back then. And John Lennon went so far as to name his band after Buddy’s: the Beatles, like the Crickets, get it? Hoo boy, that’s dumb. Almost as dumb as naming your band Herman’s Hermits when your frontman’s name is Peter and there’s five of you. But none of that matters! All that matters is what you sing to your cat when she’s huddled against you on the examining table.
And yes, I do put in the “da-dum” when I sing it. That’s the heartbeat!
